Confession of a Service Schedule Junkie

My plan for this article was to lead in with a perfect story from Sunday.  But this Monday, I decided the future is more important than the past.  Therefore, I'll simply say this; it pays to be a schedule junkie.

The benefits of working from a schedule are huge;

1. Know WHO is participating in the service.
2. Know WHEN they are participating in the service.
3. Know WHAT they need on the stage.
4. Know WHERE they will stand on the stage.
5. Know WHAT is coming next.

The pitfalls of working without a schedule;

1. Don't know what is next.
2. Don't know who is involved with the service.
3. MORE STRESS!
4. The person on stage can show uncertainty - "which mic do I use?" "where should I stand?"

It's Monday and I'm staying with "simple" so here's a short list of how to create a good schedule;

1. Record the events and their order in the service.
2. Note the name (or roll ex:drummer) of the person in each event, their location on the stage, and their mic number.  Small stage - don't both with location.
3. Note the media usage - "play track 3 on DVD"
4. List the songs the worship team is playing.  If you have to change up settings between songs, this is invaluable.
5. Anything else that helps - "add deep booming vocal effect for Phil's mic during the skit"

This weekend, I slacked off of my regular diligence in keeping a proper schedule and I paid for it.  Don't do as I have done. :)
